NEW DELHI: Despite the state government’s nod to reopen schools and colleges from November 1, Delhi University has not yet confirmed the reopening of DU colleges. However, Delhi University said it will wait for guidelines from the government before resuming offline classes. Meanwhile, students have been protesting on social media and demanding immediate reopening of DU colleges.

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) have been on hunger strike at DU Vice-Chancellor’s office to immediately reopen campus. There were reports on alleged manhandling and students being forcibly removed from the premises.

The Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on October 27 announced that the schools and colleges will reopen from November 1. The decision was taken in a meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) which noted that the COVID-19 situation is under control in the national capital.

“AISA committed to continue the fight for reopening of our university campuses,” the organisation said in the official Twitter handle.

"Let the government issue something in black and white. Then we will decide," university Registrar Vikas Gupta said, as per PTI report. The Delhi University had resumed laboratory classes for final year undergraduate and postgraduate students from September 16 but the attendance has been thin.

"We will decide after Diwali. There is a fear that Covid might recur. If the situation remains fine, we will think," DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh had told PTI on Tuesday when asked about reopening the campus.
