NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) exam aspirants have gathered in Prayagraj today to protest the Commission's decision to schedule the PCS prelims and review officer, assistant review officer (RO, ARO) exams on separate dates and across multiple shifts. The protesting UPPSC aspirants are calling for the UPPSC exams to be held in a single shift on the same day and avoid normalisation of scores.

The UPPSC protest has gained significant momentum as candidates express frustration in social media over the exam schedule, which they argue adds unnecessary pressure and challenges.

UPPSC 2024 Exam: No normalisation process, demand aspirants

On November 5, the UPPSC announced the schedule for the upcoming exams. The UPPSC PCS prelims 2024 exam is scheduled to be held on December 7 and 8, while the RO,ARO exams will be held on December 22 and 23. Due to a shortage of adequate examination centers across the state, the exams will be conducted in multiple shifts. However, students have voiced concerns over the decision, arguing that holding the exams on different dates and in different shifts could lead to an unfair normalization process

UPPSC Protest 2024: #uppsc_oneshift_onedayexam trending on X

Aspirants have taken to social media platforms to express their dissatisfaction, criticizing the UPPSC for what they view as an unjust decision.

An X user, Gauri Singh says that not only teacher recruitment aspirants but also civil services candidates are now being mistreated under the current government.

Translation: “Until now, only youth aspiring for teacher recruitment were seen on the streets... now even those preparing for the Civil Services exam are being chased away with sticks. This is the current state of the youth under this government."

Accuses UPPSC of corrupt practices

Advocate Rahul Yadav blasts the UPPSC for its alleged corrupt practices, such as changing exam format and leaking papers. He questioned the rationale behind releasing vacancies if the Commission was not committed to providing employment to the youth.

Translation: "All candidates are being sent back without notice. UPPSC is a corrupt commission. They change the mains copy whenever they wish or leak the paper. UPPSC, if you don't want to give employment to the youth, why do you even release vacancies?"

User urges government to pay attention to protesting youth

Arvind asserts that when youth fight for their rights, even the higher authorities are forced to listen. He calls for the government to pay attention to the protesting students and criticizes UPPSC's arbitrary actions as unjust.

Translation: "They say that when youth start fighting for their rights, even the higher authorities have to bow down. The government should listen to the protesting youth, because UPPSC is doing as it pleases. This is sheer injustice."

UPPSC 2024: Akhilesh Yadav supports protestors, criticizes BJP

Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party, voiced strong support for the protesting UPPSC candidates. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), he condemned the BJP for its actions against students, calling the police lathi charge on candidates in Prayagraj as highly objectionable. Yadav stated that the BJP government’s response to the peaceful protest was violent, and he accused the party of not having employment for the youth in its agenda.

Akhilesh Yadav posted on X, "Now, every hand will wave the tricolor! BJP's oppression will not be tolerated! The lathi charge by the anti-youth BJP on students is a highly condemnable act. We stand with the youth! When candidates raised their voices to stop corruption in the UPPSC exams in Allahabad, the corrupt BJP government turned violent. We repeat: Employment is not on BJP’s agenda. Jobs will come when BJP leaves! The youth say today, they do not want BJP!"
