Uttar Pradesh: PM Modi will lay foundation stone for new university in Aligarh today

The new university in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, is named after Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh a freedom fighter, educationist and social reformer.

NEW DELHI: Prime minister Narenrdra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh at around 12pm today. The university will be spread across an area of 92 acres in Lodha and Musepur Kareem Jarouli villages of Aligarh's Koil tehsil. It will provide affiliation to 395 colleges of the Aligarh division.

The university is being set up to honour the memory of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh.

According to a PTI report, a university named after a popular Jat figure could be seen as a move to appease the Jat community which has been aggrieved with the BJP governments over the issue of the new farm laws. The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are scheduled in February, 2022.

Aligarh’s best-known educational institutions is the centrally-run Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) which was placed at 10 in the recently-released government ranking of higher educational institutions, NIRF Ranking 2021.

Prime minister Narendra Modi will also be visiting the exhibition models of Aligarh node of UP Defence Industrial Corridor.

The establishment of a Defense Industrial Corridor in Uttar Pradesh was announced by the Prime Minister on February 21, 2018.

Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, Jhansi and Lucknow – have been planned in the Defense Industrial Corridor. The land allocation process has been completed and land has been allotted to 19 firms, who will invest Rs 1245 crore in the node.
