Uttarakhand Election 2022: Of 626 candidates, 3 illiterate, 26 are just literate, finds ADR report

Uttarakhand Elections 2022: 15 candidates are doctorate, 130 post graduate, 100 are 12th pass, 68 are 10th pass while 15 are 5th pass. 2 didn’t give data.

NEW DELHI: As Uttarakhand Elections 2022 come closer to their dates, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has analysed the criminal, financial, educational, gender backgrounds of the 626 candidates out of 632 contesting in the elections.

According to the ADR report, 3 candidates are illiterates while 26 have declared themselves to be just literate.

“244 (39%) candidates have declared their educational qualifications to be between 5th and 12th standard while 344 (55%) candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above. 7 candidates are Diploma holders. 26 candidates have declared themselves to be just literate and 3 candidates are Illiterates. 2 candidates have not given their educational qualification,” said the ADR report.

ADR recommended that the Election Commission of India and all State Election Commissions should make it mandatory in all elections to carry display boards outside every polling booth showing a summarised version of candidates’ affidavits. The polling booths should essentially display details of the candidate's criminal records, assets, liabilities and education qualification.

Uttar Pradesh Election Watch and ADR have not analysed 6 candidates as their affidavits were either badly scanned or complete affidavits were not uploaded on the ECI website, said an official statement.

Uttarakhand polls 2022 will be conducted from February 14 to March 10, 2022.
