Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar to be chief guest at centenary year convocation of JMI

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan has accepted vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar’s invitation to chair the centenary year convocation.
NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will hold its centenary year convocation at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on July 23 for students who passed out in the academic years 2019 and 2020.
Vice-President (VP) Jagdeep Dhankhar will be chief guest on the occasion, while Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will chair the convocation. JMI vice-chancellor (VC) Najma Akhtar called on the education minister for chairing the event.

During the meeting, she informed him about JMI’s recent accomplishments and achievements. The minister showed his special interest in JMI as he was already well-informed about the university’s latest feats, the official statement read.
The VC also talked about a proposal for the establishment of a medical college in the university.
On Sunday, the minister of state for education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh had laid the foundation stone of Jamia International Hostel. He had also inaugurated three new hostels -- APJ Abdul Kalam Hall, AM Khwaja Hostel and BR Ambedkar Hostel.
Singh had appreciated the leadership of Najma Akhtar and said he was delighted to visit the JMI to attend this function. “JMI has progressed and continuously improved in the NAAC, NIRF and other rankings. Under the active leadership of the VC, several new faculties and departments have been started at the university which is praiseworthy,” he added.

Singh had further said that over the years JMI has emerged as a seat of learning that underscores the religious and cultural diversity of the country. It helps in inculcating a spirit of learning that plains traditions with modernity, humanism with mannerism and nation building with professionalism. It is an indicator of Jamia’s contribution to higher education, the statement read.
