VIT Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan received the award from Honourable President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind during the award ceremony and release of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) on April 8, 2019 at New Delhi. ARIIA award was given to ten Government institutions and five private institutions.
In the NIRF ranking in Engineering Institutions category, VIT secured 18 th rank including all the IITs, NITs and leading universities. In the University ranking category, VIT bagged 19 th rank among all Universities in India.
This is the fourth edition of NIRF and VIT continues to be the first among the private players in engineering education for the fourth consecutive year. However, unlike ARIIA no separate ranking for private and public institutions is available in NIRF.
Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in India on indicators related to “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties. It also aims to promote innovation in Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in India.
Criteria for ARIIA Ranking:
For the first time, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has launched, Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in India on indicators related to “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties. Assessment of innovation and startup ecosystem in HEIs is based on seven parameters Budget, Expenses to Support & Revenue Generated; Infrastructures & Facilities to Support Innovations and Start-ups; Awareness Activities for Promoting Idea Generation and Innovation; Promotion and Supporting Entrepreneurship Development; Intellectual Property (IP) Generation, Technology Transfer and Commercialization; Innovative Learning Methods & Courses; Innovations in Governance of the Institution.
The process of getting data from institutions, considering them and finalizing the institutions took several months and finally the ranks were declared by our Honourable President Mr. Ram Nath Kovind. The rank was declared in two categories, one is Government funded institutions and other is private funded institutions. The President also released the ranking of Universities and colleges in the country under NIRF.
VIT’s presence at the Globe:
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has also set a record by making it to the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world university rankings 2019 in three subjects namely Computer Science and Information Systems, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Chemistry which ranked within the top 550 of the world. While the two engineering subject areas were ranked within the top 500 of the world, chemistry emerged in the top 550.
