NEW DELHI: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is planning to conduct Uccha Madhyamik, Class 12 board exam twice in a year from 2023. According to a board official, the decision will be taken in the council meeting on Friday, May 6 in the presence of the state education minister Bratya Basu. "To keep parity with CBSE, ISC, and other boards, a committee was formed to revise the curriculum of the HS exam. The committee will meet on May 6, and a decision on two semester exams in HS will be decided," the WBCHSE official told Careers360.

This year, the Uccha Madhyamik exam concluded on April 27, and the board has started the evaluation process of the HS exam papers. "It will take a month to complete the evaluation process, and the result can be expected in June," the official added.

Around 7.45 lakh candidates, including 4.04 lakh girls appeared for West Bengal Class 12 board exams 2022. Strict adherence to COVID-19 norms, including mandatory wearing of masks and physical distancing in the seating arrangement, was ensured at the 6,727 venues, a WBCHSE official said. The exams started at 10 AM and concluded at 1.15 PM.

The council could not conduct the higher secondary examination last year, and had to cancel it midway in 2020 due to COVID-19. It had devised an evaluation method to award marks.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wished for a bright future for the candidates and requested everyone to see to it that they did not face any problem while travelling to the exam centres.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced plans to conduct board exams only once from the next academic year, 2022-23 session. As the Covid-19 pandemic cases are deepening, CBSE Class 10, 12 exam 2022-23 is expected to be held once from next year, sources in the Ministry Of Education told Careers360.
