Try NowA day before the West Bengal NEET UG round 1 seat allotment, the West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee (WBMCC) announced that the MBBS, BDS round 1 admission process has been suspended “till further order”. The urgent notice comes just a day after the revised provisional state merit list for the 85% state quota seats was published.
A total of 11,178 candidates listed in the West Bengal NEET UG provisional merit list are facing uncertainty over the postponement without any “proper reason”.
The West Bengal admission and recruitment process across the state was paused by the Calcutta High Court due to the legal challenges regarding the OBC reservation. Recently, the court gave its nod to resume admission and asked the WBJEEB board to publish a fresh merit list by August 22.
The WBMCC published the revised merit list for choice filling on August 16. As per the revised schedule, the round 1 West Bengal NEET UG seat allotment result 2025 was slated to be declared on August 20 after 4 pm and college reporting between August 21 and 23.
The urgent notification read:
Union minister of state (MoS) for education and development of north eastern region, Sukanta Majumdar took to X to write: “In the name of an “Urgent Notice,” the West Bengal government has indefinitely suspended the WB NEET UG Medical Dental Counseling and Admission process without giving any proper reason! The future of the state’s medical students has been pushed into darkness.”
“Why was the admission counseling, once started, suddenly halted indefinitely? Is this yet another attempt to appease narrow political interests by granting undue privilege to a particular group under the guise of reservation?” he added.
