CLAT 2021 is scheduled to be conducted on June 13; applications for the exam will be accepted till April 30.
CLAT is a pen-and-paper-based exam conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to 5-year integrated and one-year LLM courses offered by the 22 participating NLUs.
The consortium hasn’t made any announcement
A number of central and state boards have either canceled or postponed previously announced exams. This includes the CBSE, which has canceled Class X exams and postponed Class XII exams. Maharashtra Board, Tamil Nadu Board, and HPBOSE have also postponed the Class 10, 12 Board examinations.
The COVID situation in the country remains to be grim, with over 2 lakh cases and over 1000 casualties recorded in the past twenty-four hours.
The NLU consortium, however, hasn’t yet made its intention public. At the time of writing this piece, the consortium website has nothing on the recent happenings.
A decision could be announced soon
Given the situation directly affects the safety and welfare of students, the consortium is expected to come up with a detailed notification soon.
It could relate to the postponement of the exam or safety measures put in place to assuage concerned students.
What happens if CLAT 2021 gets postponed
-
If CLAT exam date 2021 gets postponed, the consortium will announce a new date in due course.
-
And if the exam gets postponed, the candidate will have to regroup again and set their preparation as per the new date.
-
But there is no denying that if CLAT 2021 is to be postponed again, it would mark the second instance the exam has been postponed.
-
Note that the exam was originally scheduled to be conducted on May 3, but was postponed to June 13 to avoid a clash with CBSE board exams.
Will CLAT 2021 be an online exam?
Last year, given the pandemic situation, the exam (CLAT 2020) was conducted in an online center-based mode. However, the consortium had announced that CLAT 2021 will revert back to offline, pen-and-paper mode.
But as safety concerns arising from an offline exam remains the same, there is no doubt pressure is mounting on the consortium to stick to the online mode.
That being said, nothing can be predicted as of yet, as the situation is changing right before our eyes. The only expectation is that the concerned authorities must take their decision keeping in mind the welfare of the student.
