Winter Vacation 2025: Schools to close from December 25, except UP; state-wise updates

The Uttar Pradesh government has cancelled the Christmas holiday for schools to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Several state school education boards across the country have announced winter vacation schedules for schools for the 2025-26 academic year. The Delhi government has announced the winter break from December 23 to January 1, 2026.
The Directorate of School Education, Haryana has formally declared winter vacations for all government and private schools from January 1 to 15. It also stated that Class 10 and 12 students may be called in for practical exams during the break as per board guidelines.
Notably, the Uttar Pradesh government has cancelled the Christmas holiday for schools to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Whereas, schools in several districts of UP have temporarily been closed and schedules have been altered due to severe cold weather, the state government clarified that schools will be open on December 25.
The Punjab schools were shut on December 22 as part of the winter vacations and will reopen on January 12, 2026, the School Education Department, Punjab said in an official notification.
Moreover, the Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan (RBSE) has also announced the closure of schools for winter vacations from December 25 to January 5, 2026.
