NEW DELHI, JUNE 4: The World University of Design (WUD) has announced achievement of becoming a totally green campus. It has also introduced the concept of Seed bombing in the backdrop of World Environment Day celebrations this year. The campaign is launched pan India “to address ecological issues through design initiatives and workshops”. This initiative focuses on the development of ‘design and solutions to promote Environmental Sustainability and Green Living’ among students and the rest of the community.

The campaign aims to raise awareness for taking positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. Our campus activities are a minor contribution towards the goal of promoting and conserving green living. Besides developing a green campus through our environmentally friendly initiatives, we hope to set a good example for the upcoming Design, Architecture, Fashion, Visual arts & Management students. The campaign also seeks to encourage people to change their habits and participate in green activities with an effort to reduce pollution and help build a sustainable future,” elaborated Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor, World University of Design.

The initiative also includes other activities like ‘Sewage Water Disposal’, ‘Waste segregation Bins’, ‘Installation of Solar Panels’, and ‘Paper Recycling via Paper Machine’, in the campus. These programmes highlight WUD’s endeavor to support environmental sustainability and green growth.

With India being the host nation for this year’s World Environment Day theme “Beat Plastic Solution”, WUD takes a step forward to spread the word by pitching in series of environmentally-themed activities and workshops in the campus on 5th June 2018. Through this initiative, the institution encourages people to shift their focus immediately to reducing the production and excessive usage of non-reusable plastic items, which are the major reasons for polluting the water bodies, damaging the marine life and eroding the human health.

Through the seed bombing technique of introducing vegetation to land by throwing or dropping seed balls, the students and staff community of the institution is planning to create a unique Vanrai, WUD’s own Seed Bomb Jungle. The variety of seeds collected across the country by the college community will be rolled in mud and cow dung to make little balls. These seed balls will be bombed in the designated area in the campus. The perks of usage of dung in this method are to keep animals and pests away brings down the mortality rate of trees by 50%.
