24 NEET SS seats in Tamil Nadu 'wasted' due to violation of merit rules, alleges FAIMA to MCC

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has alleged that the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee has failed to revert 24 DM, MCh Super Speciality seats to the All India Quota (AIQ), resulting in vacant seats. Terming it as ‘grave injustice’ to the aspirants, the doctors group said despite conducting three rounds of MCC counselling and subsequent state counselling, the NEET SS seats have gone 'wasted'.

“This blatant withholding has led to: A tragic loss of national-level opportunities for many deserving candidates across India. Violation of MCC norms and counselling protocols, where surrendered seats must be made available to all in a transparent and equitable manner,” the medical association said in an official statement.

It’s a breach of merit-based selection, and loss to several medical aspirants who could have secured the NEET SS vacant seats in a fair final round of counselling, the doctors group added.

The FAIMA has urged the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to report the matter to DGHS, NMC and other concerned authorities. It has also demanded an explanation from the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee over the issue.

Ministry on NEET SS seats mismatch

“We also request the DGHS to conduct an emergency stray round to ensure no seat is wasted. Kindly advocate for strict guidelines to prevent such occurrences in future NEET SS processes,” it also said.

The concerned authorities' timely intervention can ensure the SS seats will not be vacant. Medical aspirants should not be denied their rightful opportunities due to administrative error, it added.

On August 9, the ministry of health and family welfare reverted to the issue of early surrender of 145 out of 215 NEET SS seats reserved for in-service candidates under the Tamil Nadu state quota to AIQ.

The ministry then informed that the TN NEET SS seats merged in the AIQ counselling were 'surrendered by the Tamil Nadu government.' NEET SS counselling is conducted for admission to super speciality courses. It was put on hold in 2024 due to issues in seat allotment in some states.
