Omicron scare: 33 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported at a medical college in Kolar. CM Basavaraja Bommai to hold meeting on rising omicron cases in Karnataka.
NEW DELHI: COVID-19 positive cases have been reported at a medical college in Kolar, Karnataka, reported ANI. 33 medical students who tested positive have been isolated in a hospital, Charani, district surveillance officer said.

Karnataka presently has 7251 active COVID cases in the state as of December 24, 2021, suggests the Covid 19 report Karnataka. Since the omicron is on the rise in the neighbouring states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, Basavaraja Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka have decided to hold a meeting with experts on Sunday to decide on actions regarding the rise in omicron variant.

In a similar incident, 43 medical students in Telangana tested positive for COVID-19. The students belonged to the Chalmeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences, Karimnagar. The students had participated in the annual day celebration events on the campus. Following this incident, the college and hostels remained closed.

Recently, Rajya Sabha was informed by Subhas Sarkar, Union minister of state for education, that a total of 327 teaching and non-teaching staff of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Central Board of Secondary Education succumbed to death because of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the second wave surge in COVID-19 cases in months of April and May, many schools, college and university teachers and educators died. Medical students were also under tremendous pressure as they were assigned COVID duty. The National Medical Commission (NMC) had made COVID-duty by final-year MBBS students compulsory.
