The British Council has announced that four universities in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom (UK), will offer GREAT Scholarships 2027 to Indian students seeking admission to one-year taught postgraduate courses. Each scholarship will provide a minimum of 10,000 British pounds towards tuition fees for the 2027-28 academic year
The courses are scheduled to begin in autumn 2027. The participating institutions include Manchester Metropolitan University, the Royal Northern College of Music, the University of Manchester and the University of Salford.
The scholarships are part of the GREAT Scholarships programme, which is jointly funded by the UK government's GREAT Britain Campaign, the British Council and participating universities. The initiative is designed to help international students study postgraduate courses in the UK.
The courses included under the scholarships and the application process will differ across universities. Indian students should check the official websites of the participating institutions to get details of eligible courses, admission criteria and application deadlines.

GREAT Scholarships 2027: Benefits, eligibility
Under the programme, each selected student will receive at least 10,000 British pounds for the tuition fees of an eligible one-year taught postgraduate course. The scholarship will not cover all the expenses required for studying in the UK. Students will have to arrange funds for any remaining tuition fees, accommodation, travel and other living costs.
To apply, candidates should get an offer of admission from one of the four participating universities and meet the entry requirements for their chosen course. They should also check if their programme is eligible for the scholarship and if the university has any additional selection criteria.
Each university has its own application process and deadline. Students should check the instructions on their chosen university’s website before applying.
Universities offering GREAT Scholarships to Indian students
The four participating universities offer postgraduate programmes across different fields. The Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford offer courses in areas such as business, management and other applied disciplines. The University of Manchester offers programmes across a wide range of subjects, while the Royal Northern College of Music specialises in music education and performance.
The GREAT Scholarships programme supports postgraduate study in many fields, including business, finance, marketing, psychology, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), design, humanities, arts, music and dance. The universities will make the final selection of students based on their eligibility and selection criteria.
