NEW DELHI: Many universities and colleges celebrated Independence Day 2021 with flag hoisting and a range of competitions. However, most celebrations were online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At many institutions, the on-campus celebration was attended only by university staff and a handful of students, typically members of the National Cadet Corps.

This is how some Indian educational institutions celebrated Independence Day on August 15


Tata Institute of Fundamental Research: Students of TIFR spread across the country recorded instrumental and vocal renditions of the National Anthem. The recordings were compiled into the following video.




TIFR hoisted the National Flag at dawn as is custom.


Delhi University: The National flag was hoisted at the Vice Regal Lodge. All the staff and officials from other universities gathered together to sing the National Anthem and patriotic songs.


Vice Chancellor PC Joshi said that the university needs to focus on environmental issues and that it'll be compulsory for each student to plant a tree where he lives.


Also to commemorate the memory of the first Vice Chancellor of the university and in celebration of 100 years of the university, a grove was planted and named after him - ‘Dr (Sir) Hari Singh Gaur Grove’.


North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU): The university celebrated India’s 75 anniversary of Independence on August 15 (today) by hoisting the National Flag on campus.


Ramaiah Medical College: Gokula Education Foundation Medical (GEFM) celebrated Independence Day at Ramaiah Medical College. The event included the hoisting of the National flag followed by the National Anthem.


Andhra Medical College: Andhra Medical College celebrated the Independence Day 2021. The principal Dr PV Sudhakar hoisted the National flag and spoke about the freedom struggle.


Shaheed bhagat Singh College: The Shaheed bhagat Singh College celebrated the Independence day by organising a patriotic singing competition in line with the “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” on August 15. The competition venue was the college.


Vinayaka Mission's Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Tamil Nadu: VMHMCM celebrated Independence Day by hoisting the National Flag in the presence of teaching and non-teaching faculty.
