AIBE 17 Exam 2023: BCI constitutes fact finding committee to examine misleading, cheating allegations

NEW DELHI: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has constituted a fact finding committee to look into the probe of misleading and cheating by some candidates who appeared for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE XVII) 2023 examination held on February 5. According to the BCI, the investigation is summoned to uncover the truth about the allegations regarding advocate Jignesh Joshi and others published in Gujarat regional newspapers on 6th February.

Advocate Jignesh Joshi and his associates are accused of misleading and tempting the candidates. It is alleged that he shared the answers of 28 questions asked in the AIBE 17 exam with the students through his WhatsApp group, although the answers of 21 questions were wrong.

"General Council of the Bar Council of India by virtue of a resolution dated February 6, 2023, by way of circulation has constituted the Fact-Finding Committee. The Fact-Finding Committee has been set up to examine the CCTV footage in order to find out the persons involved in this malpractice," as reported by the Live Law.

"The Three Member Committee shall be headed by Justice J. Upadhyay, former Judge of Gujarat High Court and Jayant B. Jaibhave, a Member of the Bar Council of India and Prof. (Dr.) S. Shanthakumar, Director of Gujarat National Law University shall be the members," it added. Ths BCI has urged the committee to submit their report to the chairman of the Bar Council of India within seven days from the date of receipt of the intimation.

Earlier, BCI said that the notion that the answer sheet was leaked or that unfair means were used appears to be untrue based on a comparison and examination of the answer tally reported in the media. However, it appears that Advocate Jignesh Joshi and some of his companions misled some of the young Advocates appearing for the exam by providing them with answers through their WhatsApp Group.
