NCERT to Rashtrapati Bhavan, Doordashan: AICTE’s Anuvadini AI translation tool has grown rapidly

Anuvadini began as an artificial intelligence-based multilingual translation platform developed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) two years ago but has rapidly expanded to generate business worth nearly Rs 62 crore. It currently employs 4,000 staff across the country.

While AI language translation remains an integral part of the platform’s functions, it now also includes an India-based messaging app, GenZ keyboard, Geo AI to assist farmers and multi-modal media translation.

Buddha Chandrasekhar, chief executive officer (CEO) said, “We have not taken any funds from the ministry and sustained ourselves.”

It has so far translated 46 lakh books for engineering degrees and diplomas and 721 for the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship (MSDE) . It is translating all the textbooks developed by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) into all 22 Scheduled languages. For other platforms, there is an option of translation into 89 foreign languages. They have also created a large repository of glossaries and dictionaries in different languages.

Chandrasekhar added, “Our mission is to break the language barrier and improve employability and entrepreneurship in our country. I believe no one should lose an opportunity just because of the language barrier.”

Anuvadini AI interns, software developers

Housed within the AICTE headquarters in New Delhi, occupying the extreme right corner of the first floor, the Anuvadini AI section is unlike any other government office.

It is abuzz with young people. From college students doing their internships, fresh graduates, senior software developers and language experts with PhDs – Anuvadini is powered by a diverse group of workers.

Organisational hierarchies, so strictly observed in public sector offices, are not so sacrosanct here. Even the CEO’s office, named Ramanujan – all rooms are named after scientists – isn’t out-of-bounds for other staff.

Sreetama Dhar, a masters student of Geo Informatics at Teri University, has been working at Anuvadini since January. She was hired for the Anuvadini Geo-AI but is now looking at social media marketing of the India-built multilingual messaging app, ‘Hyped’.

“It is a great learning experience. The work that I am doing here has also helped me a lot with my own masters’ thesis,” said Dhar.

For Anititsh Pillai, a software developer, Anuvadini Geo-AI provided his first job. It has been two years of his service at Anuvadini, a section 8 company. He graduated from SRM University Delhi.

“In all 22 Indian languages , it will provide details about the health of the land, the water levels, the kind of crops, fertilisers [farmers] can use,” he said, explaining what Anuvadini Geo-AI aims to do. “It has also integrated and provides details on all government schemes meant for the farmers. The platform will be a one-time solution.” They are already working with the ministry of jal shakti, providing details on the quality of water.

AI for Translation: Language grads get jobs

Forming the backbone of this multilingual system is an army of 3,000 language experts. Once the text is translated, the books and materials are vetted by the domain and the language expert.

Sanjay Mandal, a PhD in Bengali, was busy with the translation of the Class 6 NCERT textbooks into Bengali.

“Without the AI, this would take a month or two. With AI, it can be done in a third of that time. The tool translates the text , the text inside the images and even the design. It takes us about three to four days to validate the text,” said Mandal.

While the AI is efficient, it has an error percentage of around 20-30%, said Subhankar Das, another language expert with a PhD in Sanskrit and Bengali as his native tongue. The language experts close that gap.

The platform has over 140 customers, across government departments, private companies and educational institutions.

“The important aspect of Anuvadini is that we use only verified and government data for any kind of work,” said Deepika Kaushik, senior project manager at Anuvadhini.

Within the broad framework of translation, the products are varied. The most-used are Chutki, Buji, video translation, Bhaasha Dan, among others. Anuvadini AI Chutki, the most popular, is a writing assistant designed for instant multilingual content creation. It allows users to write and format professional content, such as books, blogs, notes, articles, and educational material, directly within the platform.

“Even when videos are translated, facial expressions, lip syncing and body movement are intact. One cannot actually differentiate,” she said. The client to use this feature most is Doordarshan; more recently, ‘Tribhuvan’ Sahkari University used it too for their MOOC content.

For many of these products, there is a voice-based system as well.

From AI translation to messaging apps, keyboards

Anuvadini Bharat also has multilingual messaging app Hyped, a Desi AI GenZ keyboard and AI-powered video conferencing for teams and webinars within its umbrella.

Mine, a senior software developer explained, “Our GenZ keyboard works offline as well. The keyboard has the GenZ terms and features, like currency convertor, calculator, calendar, and can easily change language as well. The best part is it works in incognito mode as well. So, the content of your conversations are encrypted in the real sense.” Even Hyped is so built that conversations are fully private and not used for targeted advertising – something other apps have been accused of doing.

Das explained, “Our app is also safe as they can message only on request. There is also a guest chat option, which means that your number is not visible to everyone messaging you. It also has an event planner section under it, among other things. Most importantly there is an SOS section. You can save your contacts under the SOS list and in case of emergency, even if you are offline, the other person will get your call.”

The AICTE’s Career Internship Portal is also managed through Anuvadini. As of April 2026, over 81,000 companies have listed internships and around 79 lakh students have found internship opportunities. Of the 4.76 crore registered students, 2.2 crore have been verified.

Rohit Bhardwaj, project manager, shared, “AI, data science and emerging technologies are where a lot of students have received internship offers. The portal is not confined to engineering alone, it spreads across all domains. We have also seen a lot of opportunities in fields such as legal and finance.”
