NEW DELHI: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has lifted the moratorium for setting up new colleges from the academic year 2023-24 onwards. It is noteworthy that for a long time, a ban had been imposed on setting up new technical institutions in the country.

On the basis of the covered area along with the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) and Floor Space Index (FSI), one will be able to set up their own technical institutions, a statement from the university read on Thursday.

In addition to this, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is also done with the land requirements for setting up of new technical institutions, the statement from the council further read.

Anshu Kataria, president of Federation of Self financial Technical Institutions (FSFTI) said, “AICTE has given a new lease of life to the technical institutions across the nation”. Kataria also lauded AICTE’s initiative for maintaining the faculty against those seats which are not filled.

AICTE in its statements further said that existing institutions seeking AICTE approval for their technical programme will also have to procure permission for all technical programmes offered. They said that if any institution is found to have taken partial approval, then the approval accorded to them will be withdrawn.

Now onwards, the merger of different PG diploma and MBA programmes will also be allowed as long as the student-teacher ratio is maintained. Also engineering institutions must have at least three core branches already and unlike previous year’s institution can apply for multiple programmes from the 2023-24 session.

The submission of online applications for the academic year 2023-24 will begin from today, March 23, 2023 and will continue till April 6, 2023.
