To qualify each candidate will have to meet the minimum cutoff percentile which is released along with the result. All candidates who will qualify will thus become eligible to participate in the counseling procedure.
Factors involved in AIIMS result
The exam conducting authority releases the result in the form of percentile score and based on the percentile scores, the merit list is prepared. The following parameters are considered in the preparation of result :
-
Raw scores of the candidate
-
Percentage
-
Subject-wise percentiles
-
Overall percentile
As per the marking scheme, 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer, 1/3 mark is deducted for an incorrect response and no marks are given for unanswered questions.
Determining the percentile score
For each subject, a percentile score is calculated in AIIMS result. Based on the marking scheme, the scores obtained are the raw score which is used to determine percentage score and percentile. Percentile scores are based on the relative scores of all those who appeared in the examination. The percentile scores are calculated up to seven decimal places to reduce the chances of a tie between two or more candidates.
Merit list and resolving ties
An overall merit list, rank wise and roll number wise are also released along with the result which contains the all India rank, percentile scores, subject-wise scores. The exam is conducted in two days and two shifts per day. The percentile score and for the total marks in both the shifts are merged and arranged accordingly to compile an overall merit list.
In case two or more candidates have exact same total percentile, a tiebreaking tool is applied to decide which candidate gets the higher rank. Higher percentile in Biology, Higher percentile in Chemistry, a higher percentile in Physics or a higher percentile in General Knowledge is considered. If neither of these factors helps in the resolution of a tie then the candidate who is older by age is given the higher rank.
