Ambedkar University Delhi denies permission to AISA to host discussion on Bhagat Singh

NEW DELHI: Dr BR Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) has denied permission to the student body All India Students’ Association (AISA) to conduct a seminar by professor Chaman Lal on the topic “Bhagat Singh and present times” to discuss the relevance of the ideologies of Bhagat Singh today.

The permission was denied by the Ambedkar University administration citing that no open spaces will be provided for such events, and the event must be proposed by students or the student body. The administration also pointed out that the proposal submitted by the AISA is not according to the guidelines for holding events by students.

Against this backdrop, AISA alleged that although the Aam Aadmi Party-run Delhi government is conducting programmes on Bhagat Singh, the AUD, which is run by the Delhi government is not allowing students to conduct a discussion on Bhagat Singh. “While the AAP government is organising programs on Bhagat Singh, Ambedkar University which is run by the AAP Delhi govt. is not allowing university students to hold a discussion on Bhagat Singh. Why can't AUD students talk about Bhagat Singh?,” said a tweet from AISA Ambedkar University.

AISA further said that Lal’s research is one of the most important contributions towards understanding Bhagat Singh's life and work. In the tweet, AISA requested Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia to look into the matter.
