Anna University appoints R Velraj as new Vice Chancellor

NEW DELHI: Anna University, Chennai has appointed R Velraj, professor at Institute of energy studies as the new Vice Chancellor for a period of three years.

According to a statement from Raj Bhavan, Chennai, Thiru Banwarilal Purohit, governor of Tamil Nadu and chancellor of the Anna University has appointed R Velraj as the Vice Chancellor for three years from the date he assumes office.
R Velraj has an experience of 33 years and served as the director of Institute of energy studies and Federal Republic of Germany for computer-aided design or computer-aided manufacturing (FRG institute for CAD or CAM) at Anna University , as per the statement.
Velraj has also published 193 research papers; presented 29 papers in international research events and 31 research papers in national level conferences; and organised four academic events, the statement added.
Apart from that, Velraj is the author of 3 books and has executed 15 research projects worth 17.85 crore. He has guided 33 PhD scholars and 2 MS students. He owns two patents and six agreements to his credit, the statement said.

“He formulated three courses for the PhD programme in the department of mechanical engineering, introduced nine new courses for Master of Engineering and was involved in formulation of two academic programmes for Master of Engineering at Anna University,” the statement further said.
Having visited seven different countries for research, Velraj is familiar with the university administration for he has 14 years of administrative experience, the statement observed.
