Assam government approves Assam Public Examination Ordinance, 2023 to curb cheating

NEW DELHI: The Assam government in its cabinet meeting has approved the Assam Public Examination (Measures for prevention of unfair means in examination) ordinance, 2023. The move comes to promote quality education in the state and prevent and curb unfair means at public examinations for recruitment in government jobs.

The cabinet also stated that the Madhabdev, Bhattadev and Rabindranath Tagore University will now affiliate colleges, including private colleges.

Along with the ordinance, the cabinet also approved job reservations in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) exam of 3 percent reservation for candidates from tea tribes within the overall OBC, MOBC category for recruitment in the APSC examination in grade 3 and grade 4.

The Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu in a social media post shared the cabinet highlights for the welfare of Assam people and students.

  • Scooter Distribution for Students

The Assam government to promote a sense of competitiveness among students and encourage girl education, will distribute a total of 35,770 scooters to 30,203 girls securing first division and 5,567 boys securing 75 percent or more marks in the HSSLC examination 2023 as ‘Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award’ under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme.

  • College affiliation with stand-alone universities

Bhattadev University, Rabindranath Tagore University and Madhabdev University to ensure the smooth functioning and administration of colleges will affiliate some of the colleges based on their geographical location.

  • Seat reservation in ACS, APS junior grade

The Assam government stated that one post each will be reserved for Moran and Matak communities in ACS junior grade and APS junior grade recruitment within the OBC quota for the next five combined competitive examinations to ensure adequate representation and enhance and uplift the socio-economic status of these communities.

  • Seat Reservation in MBBS, BDS

A policy will be framed for reservation of 5 percent seats in MBBS, and BDS programmes in government medical and dental colleges for students who studied from Class VII to X in Government Schools under SEBA and Classes 11 and 12 in state government and provincialised schools under AHSEC to address the educational disparities among students and promote inclusivity in medical education.
