Assam higher education minister Ranoj Pegu has announced a special teacher eligibility test (TET 2026) to recruit lower primary and upper primary-level teachers for four regional languages – Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar medium, as per the guidelines issued by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

The decision to hold a special recruitment exam was taken to address the shortage of teachers in these four regional languages. Candidates who qualify the TET exam will be shortlisted for teacher recruitment at elementary schools in the state, provided they meet the academic and professional qualifications set by the NCTE.
