Assam University UG Admissions 2024: The university will accept Class 12 marks for 80% of UG seats, CUET 2024 scores for remaining
Assam University has announced a revised admission process for its undergraduate (UG) courses, effective from the academic year 2024-25. The university will no longer require CUET (Common University Entrance Test) scores for UG admissions. Instead, students can now apply for UG admissions with their Class 12 scores.
Under the new admission process, 80 percent of UG seats will be filled based on Higher Secondary (HS) scores, while the remaining 20% of seats will be allocated to students with CUET scores. This change aims to provide more opportunities to local students, according to the university management. The revised process applies only to UG courses; admissions to PG courses will still require CUET scores.
The announcement was made online on May 22 by Shubham Roy, president of the Assam University Student Union (AUSU) and member of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) party. Assam University management later confirmed the news.
The decision to revise the admission process stemmed from efforts by AUSU to improve educational opportunities for local students. Recently, many students from the Barak Valley and other rural areas faced challenges in attempting the CUET exam due to a lack of exam centres in the region. This obstacle has stopped many local students from pursuing higher education at the university. In response, AUSU stood and fought for the removal of the CUET score requirement, engaging with both the university management and government officials to bring about this change.
AUSU expressed gratitude to the Assam University management, the Government of Assam, and the public for their support in implementing the new admission process.
