BHU launches hostel counselling outreach programme to promote students’ wellness

NEW DELHI: The Student Wellness Cell of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a hostel counselling outreach programme. As part of the hostel counselling programme, counseling sessions and activities on various themes including mindfulness, dealing with exam stress, self-care and mental health will be organised in hostels.
The BHU hostels will organise programmes, counselling sessions and activities on various themes such as dealing with exam stress, self care and mental health. The outreach programme is being executed under the supervision of dean of students Anupam Kumar Nema.

The programme will initially commence with one-on-one personal counselling sessions, following which such group sessions will be planned as per the need. There are 79 hostels in the BHU, which provide accommodation to over 16,000 students. The hostels have been divided into 28 clusters so as to cover all of them in a month under the initiative and enable maximum number of students to be benefited.
The initiative will be led by student counsellor Nityanand Tiwari and advisor student affairs Commander (retd) S Sanyal. External experts and mentors will also be invited to these activities. The programme has been designed on the suggestion of BHU Vice-Chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain to enhance student outreach in terms of counselling facilities.

set up at institute of science, in line with the National Education Policy, NEP 2020, has also started functioning. Faculty members will be present at the desk from 4PM to 5PM on all working days. The desk works to provide physical and mental health counselling and support to students in need.
The students can reach the well-being desk at the email, wellbeing.isc@bhu.ac.in, for the required advice. This will serve as an additional resource for students to reach out for assistance in case of academic as well as emotional guidance, the university has said.
Vice-Chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain has said the university should provide avenues for academic, physical, professional, emotional and mental development to the students.
