BHU reopens for PhD students; Online classes to continue for first-year batches

BHU has decided to resume physical classes except for first-year batches of some departments. A few departments will reopen on February 21.
NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has decided to reopen campus for PhD students with immediate effect. All the classes of the Institute of Medical Sciences will also be conducted in offline mode. First-year batches of some departments, however, will continue with online classes.
The university has decided to resume physical classes with some exceptions. Final year classes in the faculty of agriculture, veterinary and science, management, Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development will start in offline mode with immediate effect. But classes for other years will start in offline mode from February 21, 2022, the BHU said.

The departments that are exempted from attending offline classes are first year students in Science Institute, faculty of arts, social science, law, stage arts, visual arts, commerce, Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan and Women's College.
The university clarified that the first-year classes in these institutes and faculties will be conducted in online mode only.
“The decision regarding the conduct of classes and examinations will be taken after reviewing the situation in due course of time. The allotment of hostels will be done on double occupancy basis as per availability,” BHU informed students.
BHU had on February 7 released a notice informing students that the classes will start functioning with 100 percent capacity with immediate effect. The university has also opened admissions to its PhD, MPhil and integrated MPhil PhD programmes. Candidates will have to submit the online application by February 15, 2022, at BHU official website, bhuonline.in.

In other news, the University of Delhi has also decided to reopen DU colleges from February 17 for undergraduate and post-graduate courses. The decision taken during the academic council meeting comes as a relief for students who have been protesting for the last three days demanding the resumption of offline classes.
