Board Exams 2022: Plea against offline exams listed in Supreme Court today; hearing tomorrow

Enrol NowNEW DELHI: The Supreme Court agreed to hear tomorrow the plea seeking a direction to CBSE, CISCE, state boards to cancel board exams 2022. On an urgent listing of the petition, the Chief Justice of India had agreed to list the matter before a bench led by Justice AM Khanwilkar as Madhya Pradesh board exams have already commenced.

Yesterday, a bench comprising Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices A S Bopanna and Hima Kohli took note of the submissions of a lawyer seeking early listing of the plea saying that the physical examination should not be conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. "This is regarding class 10 and 12 Board examinations. Physical examination should not be held due to the pandemic," lawyer Prashant Padmanabhan said.

"Let the matter go before a bench of Justice A M Khanwilkar," the bench said. The lawyer mentioned the plea filed by one Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, an activist, seeking directions to CBSE and other education boards which have proposed to hold board examinations offline for classes 10 and 12.

The petition has been filed in the top court by students of 15 states seeking direction to state boards, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to adopt an alternate mode of assessment in Class 10, 12 board exams 2022 instead of conducting offline exams.
The petition also seeks relief for conducting an improvement exam for those students who are not satisfied with the internal assessment.
It further sought to form a committee for deciding the formula of assessment of Class 10, 12 students including compartment exams and declaration of result on time.
