UK Scholarships: British Council announces GREAT Scholarships 2026–27 for Indian students

Study Abroad: British Council will offer 12 GREAT scholarships for Indian students for postgraduate study in the UK.
The British Council has announced the GREAT Scholarships 2026–27 for Indian students seeking to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. The initiative offered in partnership with the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign, aims to support academically outstanding students from India seeking world-class education in the UK.
For the 2026–27 academic year, 12 postgraduate scholarships will be available to Indian students across a wide range of disciplines.
The scholarships will be offered by leading UK universities, including Anglia Ruskin University, Norwich University of the Arts, Queen’s University Belfast, Royal College of Art, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal Northern College of Music, the University of Bristol, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, the University of Dundee, the University of Reading, the University of Surrey, and UWE Bristol.
Each GREAT Scholarship provides a minimum of 10,000 pounds sterling (approximately Rs 12 lakh) towards tuition fees for a one-year taught postgraduate programme.
GREAT Scholarships 2026–27:
The scholarships cover a diverse set of subjects, including finance, marketing, business, psychology, STEM, design and humanities, along with arts, music and dance programmes.
Four participating universities are offering scholarships specifically in creative and performing arts disciplines.
The GREAT Scholarships are jointly funded by the UK government’s GREAT Britain Campaign, the British Council, and participating UK higher education institutions.
Rittika Chanda Parruck MBE, director education India at the British Council, said the scholarships reflect the depth of the UK–India education partnership and the shared commitment to creating opportunities for talented students across India.
She said studying in the UK offers exposure to industry-aligned learning and a global academic environment that supports innovation and professional growth.
“The GREAT Scholarships programme continues to broaden access for Indian students to specialised postgraduate study in the UK, supporting them in building global perspectives and future-ready skills across sectors,” the British Council said.
