Types of commonly repeated questions in the CAT exam

As this list indicates, reading and understanding a piece of text requires more than a passive understanding of the words and sentences it contains. It requires active engagement with the text, asking questions, formulating and evaluating hypotheses, and reflecting on the relationship of a particular text to other texts and information.

  • Identifying the author's assumptions and perspective

Each Reading Comprehension question in CAT is based on a passage that ranges from three paragraphs to seven paragraphs in length. The exam has a total of 24 questions and approximately 6 passages, most of which are three-four paragraphs long and only one or two are several paragraphs long.

The passages are drawn from social sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, business, arts and humanities and everyday topics and are based on material found in academic and non-academic books and periodicals.
