NEW DELHI, FEB 28: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has exempted students appearing for Class 10 examinations from mandatory separate pass criteria for internal and external Board examinations. The Decision has been taken as a one-time measure for students appearing for Board examination in 2018.
As per the measure, Class 10 students appearing for CBSE Board examination will be exempted from the mandatory separate pass criteria in the subjects which have 20 marks as internal assessment component and 80 marks of Board examination.
Class 10 board examinations which are scheduled to begin on March 5 this year will be the first mandatory public exam after eight years.
The CBSE had introduced the Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) scheme along with optional Board exam which was revoked in 2017 by the Board and so, Class 10 Board examination was made mandatory.
The notification issued by CBSE chairperson Anita Karwal read that this one-time exemption is being given to students as they will be the first batch after the Board exam made a comeback. As per the “passing criteria” for the Class 10 students of the 2017-18 batch, “they need to secure overall 33% (both internal assessment and the Board exam marks taken together) in the subject to be able to pass”.
The above passing criteria will also apply to the additional subjects which have an internal assessment of 20 marks and Board examination of 80 marks.
