NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education conducted the CBSE Class 12 board economics exam from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Class 12 economics exam was held for 80 marks. After reviewing the economics question paper, experts said that the exam was of moderate difficulty level.

As per the board, 20 marks will be based on the internal assessment. The experts said that the questions were from the syllabus and entirely based on the pattern of the latest sample paper issued by CBSE. Swati Urmil, head of economics department, Bhai Parmanand Vidya Mandir, said CBSE Class 12 Economics paper had application-based questions, which needed a thorough study and understanding of the topics and chapters.

The students had to attempt questions in two sections – Indian Economic Development and Macroeconomics. “Regarding section-wise difficulty level, both section A, macro-economic theory and section B, Indian economic development, had tricky one mark and four mark questions. The question paper was moderately designed with questions to analyse the student’s conceptual understanding,” Urmil added.

Both sections were balanced

Tajinder Kaur, PGT Economics, Manav Rachna International School, Ludhiana, said the Class 12 economics question paper was evenly balanced between applications based, current affairs, Macro and Indian economics based questions. “The numericals were fairly easy to calculate and database questions were easy to interpret. The case study based questions were well within Class 12 syllabi and students found them comfortable to answer. Both sections were well balanced on all counts,” she added.

Questions tested analytical skills

Alka Kapur, Principal, Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, said the inclusion of both direct and expected questions, alongside a few tricky ones, aimed to assess students' depth of understanding and analytical skills.

“The emphasis on practical application demanded a comprehensive grasp of the subject matter. However, the potential pitfall of losing marks in multiple-choice questions underscores the importance of careful preparation and attention to detail. Overall, students managed to navigate the paper well within the allotted time, reflecting their preparedness and adaptability,” Kapur said.
