CBSE to use blockchain technology to secure board exam result documents

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with Centre of Excellence for BlockChain Technology of National Informatics Centre has come up with a solution to record and secure documents related to board exam results, according to a statement by CBSE.
The ‘Academic {BlockChain} Documents', or ABCD, employs blockchain technology that “ensures that academic documents are recorded in a secure and tamper proof manner,” said a statement from the CBSE. “These academic documents can be accessed online one in a trusted and verifiable manner,” the statement added. This simplifies the process of both accessing and verifying documents at the time of admission or employment. The CBSE statement says individual and institutions can verify documents at that board’s main official website, cbse.gov.in or its page for the ABCD, cbse.certchain.nic.in .
As per the statement from CBSE: “The result certificates are kept in a distributed manner at different locations involving multiple stakeholders, protecting it against any attempt of tampering.”

Using this technology CBSE has made the digitally signed certificates of Classes 10 and 12 students available for the academic years 2019 to 2021. CBSE is also planning to add certificates from previous years in the coming months.
When new documents are issued, a digital copy will be sent to the blockchain system. The network managed by NIC at its data centres uses “nodes” in Bengaluru, Pune and Jaipur.
The introduction of this technology overcomes the problems of verification of the authenticity of certificates produced by students at the time of admissions, jobs and loans, as these documents will be saved digitally using blockchain technology. “Academic {BlockChain} Documents (ABCD) addresses these challenges regarding verification of documents produced by candidates.” says the statement.
This process ensures safety and eliminates the dependency of third party verifications as the data is stored with ‘cryptographic security’ which makes it permanent and traceable.
