CCEA approves opening of 13 new KVs and a JNV

NEW DELHI, August 2 - Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the proposal for opening of 13 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in seven states and a second Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Madhya Pradesh under the ‘Challenge Method’. This move will benefit more than 13500 students. The aim of this proposal is to provide access to quality education to eligible students.The 13 new KVs are in Mirjapur (Uttar Pradesh), Chakpikarong (Manipur), Banda (Uttar Pradesh), Washim (Maharashtra), Baoli (Uttar Pradesh), Parbhani (Maharashtra), CISF Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh), Nawada (Bihar), Bhadohi (Uttar Pradesh), Siddipet (Telangana), Palamau (Jharkhand), Kudamalakunte (Karnataka) and Devkund (Bihar).

The additional second JNV is proposed to be established in Alot, District Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh due to a huge population of SC and ST. In addition, the State Government also showed interest by providing the basic resources.

CCEA approved proposal for setting up of 50 new KVs with an estimate of Rs.1160 Crore at its meeting in March, 2017. The ‘Challenge Method’ meant an open bidding for those willing to open KVs. Earlier only KVs would approve for opening of new branches which now will require approval by cabinet.

The project would be sanctioned on ‘first come first serve basis’ in locations where sponsoring authorities come up with basic necessities of land and accommodation as per KV norms. Detailed guidelines were issued in September, 2017 after which 13 proposals scoring maximum were approved.
