The announcement comes after doctors were assaulted at Shastrinagar Hospital under the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, according to an official statement.

The Central Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has strongly condemned the brutal attack on doctors and healthcare workers, announcing a statewide Black Ribbon protest on July 9 across all government medical colleges and hospitals in Maharashtra.
The announcement comes after doctors and healthcare workers were assaulted at Shastrinagar Hospital under the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, according to an official statement.
The association has also stated that the authorities have 72 hours to identify, arrest, and initiate strict legal action against the accused, otherwise they will conduct the state-wide strike.
“If the culprit is not arrested within 72 hours, Central MARD will be compelled to launch an indefinite statewide protest. A large-scale agitation across Maharashtra will be organized in coordination with all doctors’ associations and healthcare organizations to demand justice and ensure the safety of healthcare professionals,” Central MARD said in the statement.
Urging the government to treat the matter with the “utmost seriousness and implement strict measures to prevent such incidents,” the doctor’s group expressed that the safety of doctors and healthcare workers is paramount for ensuring uninterrupted and quality healthcare services to the public.
In April this year, a resident doctor at the emergency and trauma centre of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) was physically assaulted, following which the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) had written to the vice chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), demanding an urgent administrative intervention, and immediate arrest of the accused.
In addition, earlier in 2026, a parliamentary health committee submitted a report to the parliament, stating excessive workload and fatigue in existing staff of central government medical colleges, including the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
