CJP cancels September 5 protest after Centre gives assurance to quash FIRs against students

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has called off its September 5 protest after the government gave assurance that all FIRs against students, who participated in the July 20 NEET paper leak protest would be quashed. The social media campaign-turned-political party informed the Supreme Court that it has withdrawn its protest, scheduled to be held on Teacher’s Day, PTI reported.

Saurav Das, chief spokesperson of the CJP, appeared before a bench of the Supreme Court to inform it about the decision, the report read.

The SC bench comprised chief justice Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, it added.

At the hearing, solicitor general Tushar Mehta requested the SC to close all FIRs against NEET protesters between July 20 to 25 across the country, the report said.

Centre seeks 3 months to figure out method to compensate NEET aspirants families

Centre was committed to honour the assurance given to the CJP and provide compensation to the families of students who lost their lives due to the NEET UG 2026 exam paper leak, Mehta said in the report.

The government will pay the compensation and sought three months to work out the modalities, it added.

The CJP had planned the September 5 protest against the centre’s failure to fulfil the promise made on July 25 to withdraw the police complaints against students, it read.

It had also accused the centre of failing to honour the promises made on July 25 to persuade the CJP leaders to withdraw its 36-day agitation against NEET PG irregularities and demanding former education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

The September 5 march was supposed to be led by families of students who committed suicide due to the cancellation of the NEET exam, as well as those who allegedly affected by the police brutality during the protests, the report mentione.
