NEW DELHI: The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has started the CLAT counselling 2023 on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Only those candidates who have received an invitation from the consortium through email/sms or on the CLAT 2023 portal are eligible to register for the CLAT counselling admission process.

CLAT counselling will be conducted in five rounds. Candidates will be allocated seats based on their rank in the CLAT merit list and NLUs seat matrix. The CLAT 2023 entrance exam was held on December 18, in 127 exam centres across the country.

CLAT 2023 counselling instructions

The invited candidates will have to register for CLAT 2023 counselling process until January 12, 2023, 6 pm. Follow the steps below to participate in CLAT 2023 counselling:

  • Login to CLAT account and validate the invitation for counselling during each round.

  • Click the ‘Make Payment’ button. Pay the counselling registration fee of Rs. 30,000 (general category candidates) or Rs. 20,000 (ST/ SC/ OBC/ BC/ EWS/ PWD categories).

  • The CLAT counselling registration fee can be made online and it is refundable.

  • Wait till a ‘Payment Successful’ message is displayed on screen before logging out.

What after CLAT counselling registration?

The successfully registered eligible candidates will be alloted a seat at the preferred NLU. The first seat allotment list will be declared on January 18, 2023. Candidates will have the option to either freeze, float or exit the round of CLAT counselling.

Freeze option: If the candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat, accepts it, and is not interested in participating in further rounds of seat allocation/ counselling, they may ‘freeze’ the seat allocation.

Float option: If the candidate has not been allotted their first preference NLU and chooses to leave ‘open’ the possibility of getting a higher preference NLU seat they may choose the ‘float’ option.

Exit option: If at any time after completing the registration process, a candidate does not want to participate any further in the counselling process, they may choose to ‘exit’ the admissions counselling process.

The eligible candidate who has been allotted a seat as per NLU preferences will be required to pay a non-refundable confirmation fee of Rs. 20,000 prior to selecting a ‘freeze’ or ‘float’ option before the deadline.

Documents required for CLAT 2023 counselling

Keep the scanned copies of the following documents ready to upload for the admissions counselling process:

  • Grade 10 statement of marks

  • CLAT 2023 admit card

  • Grade 12 marksheet

  • LLB/equivalent degree marksheet (for PG candidates)

  • Character certificate

  • Transfer/migration certificate

  • Caste certificate

  • PwD/SAP certificate

  • Domicile/residence certificate

  • Any other supporting documents

All candidates who select the freeze option in the first or second round of counselling must pay the balance university fees after adjusting for the counselling registration fee and confirmation fees by May 20, 2023.
