Candidates can raise objections to the provisional answer key, if any, until December 12 at 5 pm. The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) conducted the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2026) for LLB and LLM admissions on December 7 across 56 centres in 25 States, 93 cities, and 4 Union Territories across the country.
This exam recorded a significant turnout, with 96.83% of undergraduate applicants and 92.45% of postgraduate applicants taking the exam.
All twenty-five NLUs across the country will admit students to their BA LLB and LLM courses based on the CLAT scores through a counselling process.
For CLAT 2026, 92,344 candidates applied, marking a 17% rise from last year. Of these, 75,009 registered for the UG programme and 17,335 for the PG programme. The overall male–female ratio is about 0.72:1. In the CLAT 2026 exam, 548 candidates participated under the PwD category.

The CLAT question paper 2026 has 120 multiple-choice questions carrying 1 mark each. A negative marking of 0.25 marks will be applied for each incorrect response, as per the CLAT marking scheme.
Candidates have to attempt all questions within a duration of two hours, from 2 pm to 4 pm; however, PwD candidates are given an additional 40 minutes to answer the questions.
Those allotted Lucknow exam centre have been shifted to Lucknow Public College, A-Block, Rajajipuram.
All candidates who qualify for the entrance exam are required to register again for the CLAT UG, PG counselling. Students will be allowed to submit 15 preferences during each round of the counselling process.

Last year, aspirants opposed the “unreasonable” objection fee of Rs 1,000 per question challenged. Student representatives approached the Consortium this year as well. However, their request to lower the existing application fee - Rs 4,000 for general and Rs 3,500 for the reserved category – is yet to be addressed.
Notably, the CLAT UG and PG counselling fee costs Rs 30,000 for general and Rs 20,000 for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD categories.

According to CLAT 2026 exam guidelines, use of any unfair means during the test shall result in the candidate’s disqualification. Possession of electronic devices, including mobile phones, headphones and digital watches, is strictly prohibited. Impersonation or any other fraudulent practice during the test may amount to a criminal offence, and will lead to the candidate’s disqualification, and also, penal action shall be initiated against the candidate.

During the CLAT 2026 registration process, several NLU students demanded a response from the Consortium of NLUs regarding the long-pending request to review application and counselling fees.
Students argued that the CLAT application fee — Rs 4,000 for general and Rs 3,500 for SC, ST, PwD — and the counselling fee of Rs 30,000 to Rs 20,000 remain high and create financial barriers for many aspirants. Representations have been submitted multiple times, but students say the Consortium has not yet provided any clarification or addressed the issue.

CLAT 2026 carries a total of 120 marks. For each correct answer will be awarded 1 mark. For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted as negative marking. There is no deduction for unanswered questions.

The dress code for CLAT is simple and modest for both male and female students.
Male students should wear plain T-shirts or shirts with trousers. Male students should avoid jeans with metal attachments, watches, caps, or accessories. Prefer open slippers or sandals instead of shoes.
Female candidates should prefer plain kurtis, tops with trousers, or salwar suits and avoid jewellery, scarves, and high heels. Footwear should be simple, preferably slippers or sandals.

Once the exam is over, candidates will have access to the CLAT 2026 question paper with the answer key once the exam is over. Several coaching institutes will issue the official answer key and detailed solutions. Candidates will be able to verify their responses and calculate their expected scores immediately after the CLAT 2026 exam.

The eligibility criteria for CLAT UG 2026 remains unchanged. Candidates should have passed Class 12 with 45% marks and SC, ST students should have obtained at least 40%.
For LLM, only LLB graduates with 50% marks or 45% for SC, ST will be eligible to appear.
