Courts of the Living Competition 2026 registration open for UG, PG law students; apply by September 22

The Courts of the Living (CoTL), Agami and NALSAR University of Law, have launched the Courts of the Living Competition 2026 for undergraduate and postgraduate law students. Interested students can apply for the competition through the official website at courtsofliving.com.

The Courts of the Living Competition 2026 application window will be open until September 22.

As per the eligibility criteria, students pursuing integrated LLB or 3-year LLB programmes, and LLM students can apply for the competition.

“The competition focuses on issues of coexistence and multispecies justice within our judicial system,” according to an official notification.

The inaugural edition of the Courts of the Living Competition 2026 launched this year, emphasises on the Sundarbans bio-region, weaving together questions of human-wildlife conflict, non-human sentience, and ecosystems into a single problem statement that requires participating teams to take into account the interests of more-than-human beings, the statement read.

It also draws on the region’s own cosmology, situating the legal problem within the spiritual frameworks that have governed the Sundarban’s forests and waters.

The Courts of the Living competition is co-launched by a host of institutions and individual partners drawn from legal scholars and practitioners working on climate law, political economy, and multispecies justice, ecology, animal rights, amongst other fields, and is guided by a board of advisors, the statement added.

The applications for the Courts of the Living competition 2026 are currently open and the website is active for registration, as per the notice.
