COVID-19: NMC relaxes thesis submission, exam norms for PG medical students

NMC has given relief to PG medical students of the batches 2018-19, 20219-20, 2020-21 considering COVID-19 situation.
NEW DELHI: The Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has relaxed norms on the submission of theses and examinations for the postgraduate (PG) medical students considering the COVID-19 situation.
The students can now submit their theses three months before the theory and practical examination. Earlier, they were supposed to submit it at least six months before the exam. The relaxation has been given to the students of batches 2018-19, 2019-20 or 2020-21 writing exams for 2022.

“NMC has received several requests regarding submission of Postgraduate thesis of students for the batches admitted during academic years 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21. The Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) has decided to relax the said portion of the regulation and allow the Postgraduate degree students to submit their thesis at least three months before the theory and clinical or practical examination,” says the NMC advisory.

The NMC has also relaxed norms pertaining to examinations for the postgraduate students of the batch 2018-19 studying in broad or super specialties. Now, they will be eligible to appear for the postgraduate degree examination even if they have not made a poster presentation, read a paper at a conference, or submitted a research paper on a publication.
In December 2020 also, NMC had given similar relief to PG students on submission of postgraduate degree thesis.
