Significant anger erupted among students, many of whom had travelled from distant locations, after hearing about the paper leak. The situation escalated as hundreds of students lost control, prompting the deployment of a heavy police force.
DCP West Vijay Dhull reported that a large number of students had assembled at the examination centre for the CUET entrance exam. The CUET UG May 15 shift 2 B exam was conducted offline from 5 pm to 6 pm. However, even after the exam ended, many students were seen sitting in various rooms. This unusual scenario raised suspicions among the students, leading to their protest.
CUET UG 2024: Re-exam for affected candidates
As tensions escalated at Maharana Pratap Group of College, the administration called the police for assistance. Despite attempts to calm the angry students, the situation worsened.
"Students who were affected in this scenario will be allowed to re appear for the exam as per NTA officials. The CUET May 15 re exam date for affected candidates will be announced by NTA in due course of time. The future of students is safe", DCP added.
The students started shouting slogans, alleging that exam papers were being kept in the rooms, and the protest intensified when they began throwing stones to break the windows. "Videos of the incident showed female students actively participating and encouraging others to break the glass. Determined to substantiate their claims about the exam papers, the students persisted in their actions until the police intervened to prevent further damage, leading to an even greater uproar", News18 reported.
The first-day of CUET UG 2024 was conducted for Chemistry, Biology, English and General Test across the country except 258 centres in Delhi. Over 75% attendance recorded on the first day of CUET UG exam.
