CUET UG 2023 day 1 records 76% attendance; 2nd phase admit cards on May 22 or 23: UGC chief

NEW DELHI : The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2023 day 1 recorded a 76 percent attendance, the University Grants Commission (UGC) chief M Jagadesh Kumar said. A total of 2,65,248 candidates appeared in three shifts including 87,879 in shift 1, 87,903 in shift 2, and 89,466 in the third shift. While shift 1 was held in 271 cities and 447 centers, shift 2 “ended well” in 272 cities and 448 centers. The third shift was conducted in 271 cities and 458 centers.

Kumar informed that CUET UG 2023 admit cards for exams from May 25 to 28 will be issued by May 22 late night or May 23. CUET UG city intimation slips for exams from May 29 to June 2 will be out on May 23.

The UGC chairman said that in 2% of centers (approximately 12 out of 450 today), there was a delay in commencement of the CUET 2023 exam but it was successfully completed. Kumar reasoned that the exam started late due to issues such as power fluctuations in some centers and crowding of students at others.

According to Kumar, it was mentioned in the CUET UG 2023 admit cards to enter the center in a staggered manner. “But in a few centers, since they came late, there was crowding and subsequent delay in the start of the exam. We request the students to come staggered to avoid this kind of situation. We have now taken administrative measures to prevent such situations in the future. In many cities, we have also taken help from the traffic police to minimize traffic jams around the centers,” Kumar added.

The UGC chief further said that the authorities have provided basic amenities like water, refreshments, and covered shelters or waiting areas to candidates and their parents or guardians at the exam centres. Candidates and their parents were also timely informed about the steps taken and the status of exam timings in the centers where there was a delay in starting the test. “We will continue to take measures to provide a better experience to the students sitting for CUET-UG,” M Jagadesh Kumar further informed.
