NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has announced that the school winter break for the session 2023-24 will be held from November 9 to 18. The winter vacation had been rescheduled due to severe air pollution in the Delhi-NCR.

The Delhi government said, “In the wake of implementation of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-IV) measures due to severe air quality prevailing in Delhi. Seeing that no respite from such adverse weather conditions in near future is predicted by the IMD, the Winter Break for the session 2023-24 is ordered to be preponed so that schools can be totally closed and both children and teachers can stay at home.”

The government has asked the schools heads to convey the information to guardians and parents of students immediately.

Noida, Gurugram schools shut

The deteriorating air quality situation has affected the school operation in Delhi-NCR. Gautam Buddha Nagar administration has suspended physical classes up to class 9 in schools across Noida and Greater Noida till November 10.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implements GRAP Stage-IV as air quality index (AQI) breaches the severe category with 400+ AQI in Delhi-NCR.

The Gurugram administration has also closed the government and private schools for students of nursery to Class 5 till further orders in view of severe air quality. The orders were given yesterday.

Delhi schools have been closed since November 3. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had made the announcement on November 2. Following which the Delhi education minister had announced that middle and high schools had the option to take classes online.
