NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal today announced that the cabinet has approved to establish new Delhi Teachers University in the national capital to train ‘new generation teachers’. The chief minister said that the decision was taken to train “excellent quality teachers” for the students.

The Delhi Teachers University Bill will be tabled in the upcoming assembly session, he said. “Four-year integrated teacher education programme will be offered in the Delhi Teachers University for students after Class 12. BA BEd, BSc BEd, BCom BEd courses will be incorporated to train new generation teachers.”

"It is decided that the Delhi government will set up a 'Teachers University', through which new generation teachers will be trained. The admissions will start in the 2022-23 session. It will be run in collaboration with international organizations," the Delhi CM wrote on Twitter.

Students will get practical training as the university will be attached to the Delhi government schools and the admission to the Delhi Teachers Univerity will begin from the academic year 2022-23, Arvind Kejriwal said during the press conference.

“Delhi Teachers University will also collaborate with the best national and international institutes and it will also research on the best teaching techniques. The decision was taken with the aim to train the best teachers for the students,” he added.

He also announced that free ration will be provided till May 31 in Delhi. On the pandemic situation, he said, "Experts believe that the Omicrom variant of Corona is not so dangerous but it is spreading rapidly. We have made adequate arrangements in Delhi to deal with any situation. All of you are requested to go out wearing masks and prevent corona from spreading."
