New Delhi: Delhi University will be inaugurating its centenary celebrations from May 1, 2022, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh gave the details about the event in a press conference at VC office of DU today, March 3.
Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh also released the centenary logo and tagline of the university today. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the entries for the DU centenary logo and tagline had been invited from the students of the Delhi University through open competitions. He congratulated the creator of the centenary logo, Kratika Khinchi, a student of the Gargi College and also thanked all the students for their participation in the competition.

He said that the centenary celebrations of the university is a historic event in itself. “Such opportunities come after a long wait after a hundred years. It is a matter of pride for all the people associated with the University that we are getting the privilege of being a part of this historic event,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor informed that the centenary celebration will begin on May 1, 2022, with the release of the Delhi University’s commemorative stamp and coin.
Giving detailed information about the year-long activities during the centenary celebrations, he said that a Coffee Table Book has also been planned to be released and that the year-long activities include programmes not just for the stakeholders of the University, but the community at large.
For instance, he informed, that there shall be an adoption of a centenary village with achievable and tangible social welfare-oriented goals, health awareness checkup and blood donation camps, among others. Plantation of simultaneous 100 trees at 100 locations across the University’s campuses has also been planned.

“The year shall also see the organization and creation of some documentaries on the University, its history through light and sound show, launch of DU Studio, Litfests, book melas, exhibition of rare books and manuscripts, organization of various seminars, conferences, workshops and lecture series on international level, signing of MoUs and international exchange programmes, Research & Development, innovative practices and other similar activities,” he said.
On the sports and extra-curricular fronts too, there are plans to have centenary cup, across various activities, and also the launch of Youth Festivals in the University.
Delhi University has also decided to give a "centenary" chance to students who could not complete their degree for some reason to return to the university and take their exams. A proposal for this was approved at a special Executive Council meeting held here on January 28.

He also informed that, for the first time, technical courses shall be started in the University. He informed about the starting of new courses of BTech in CSE, EC and EE and of UG and PG courses in management and economics in Campus of Open Learning (CoL).
Besides these, centenary infrastructure creation has also been planned through new building for the Faculty of Technology and Academic and Administrative Blocks in the Institute of Eminence building. He informed that the centenary year shall also witness a construction of 2 new hostels, with 800-1000 bed capacity each, to cater to the exploding needs of outstation students of the University. Further, the Centenary Foundation Day shall also see felicitation of distinguished alumni, of the unsung heroes of the University and teaching and non-teaching serving as well as retired staff members, he said.
