Delhi University confers awards to distinguished alumni on 99th Foundation Day

Delhi University celebrated its 99th Foundation Day today which was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Notable alumni were awarded during the event.

Download NowNEW DELHI: The Delhi University celebrated its 99th Foundation Day on September 11 at the university’s convention hall. While the foundation day of the university is designated on May 1, the anniversary could not be celebrated earlier due to the pandemic situation.

“The main focus of the celebration was to honour the Distinguished Alumni who have brought laurels to their alma mater by the excellence in their field as well as to felicitate the Awardees of the University who have made outstanding contribution to the University in their spheres of profession,” a statement from Delhi University said.

Some of the esteemed alumni of the Delhi University included the likes of Kiren Rijiju, law minister; Kiran Bedi, former lieutenant governor, Puducherry and Imtiaz Ali, renowned filmmaker; Justice Inderjeet Mohanty, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court; P K Mishra, principal secretary to the Prime Minister’s office, Amit Khare, Secretary, Higher Education; Ministry of Education; Manoj Kumar, State Election Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh.
Apart from that, twenty-nine teaching and non-teaching staff were awarded under different categories, according to the official DU statement.
DU conferred the Nishtha Dhriti Satyam Samman, highest award upon Jitendra P Khurana and Pami Dua for their contribution to the university development.
Recently, Miranda House College of Delhi University ranked first in NIRF Ranking 2021 under the College category followed by Lady Shri Ram College for Women and Loyola College. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the India rankings on September 9.

Meanwhile, Delhi University’s Rajdhani College reduced fees for second and third year students who were facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
