DU announces up to 100% fee waiver for students with family income less than Rs 4 lakh

Students with family income less than Rs 4 lakh or between Rs 4 to 8 lakh per annum are eligible to apply for the scheme till December 12.

NEW DELHI: University of Delhi (DU) has launched the Financial Support Scheme (FSS) or financially weak students. Interested candidates can avail the scheme till 4 PM on December 12, 2022.

The scheme offers a fee waiver to economically weaker students in line with government's motto "Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas". The fee waiver under the scheme will includes all components of fee paid by students except examination fee and hostel fee, as per the notice issued by DU on its official Twitter handle.

Full-time bonafide students that study at University of Delhi in its department and institutions belonging to an economically weak section are eligible to apply. Students with ER or arrears of previosu examinations cannot apply to the scheme. Students that belong to category 1 that has a family income of less than Rs 4 lakh and category 2 in which the family has an annual income between Rs 4 to 8 lakh are eligible.

Under the first category, the DU will wave off 100 percent fees while for second category, the fee waiver is upto 50 percent. To avail the FSS scheme, students are required to submit an annual family income certificate, copies of in come tax returns (ITR) of parents, copies of marksheet of the last exam passed, a copy of bonafide student in degree or postgraduate degree course, fee receipt mentioning the amount under different heads separately and their bank pass book.

The DU academic council approved a Rs 2,500 hike in PhD thesis evaluation fee from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500 for students with a fellowship and raising the total fee for students without a fellowship to Rs 5,500. A resolution to increase the student-teacher ratio was also passed yesterday, November 22, 2022.
