DU 98th Convocation: In a first, 1.73 lakh Delhi University students receive digital degrees
DU VC said the university will start new courses - BTech in Computer Science, BTech in Electrical, BTech in Electronics, Integrated 5-year BA LLB, BBA LLB.

NEW DELHI: In a first, Delhi University students received digital degrees on the 98th annual convocation today, February 26 organised at the multipurpose hall of DU Sports Complex. Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was present as the chief guest at the event while DU Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh presided over the function. Singh gave digital degrees to 1,73,443 students. Due to the Corona protocol, most of the students became part of the function through online mode.
VC informed that the digital degrees have been made available through the software “Samarth e-Governance” BlockChain Technology that has been developed by DU.

Besides, 158 students received 197 gold medals (some students got more than one gold medal). 50 students were awarded degrees in Doctor of Medicine or Master of Surgery. The event was also telecast live on the official website of DU - du.ac.in.
Further, DU VC said that this year 802 students have obtained PhD degree from DU, which is the highest ever in the history of the University. Two students named Manoj from Dept of Mathematics and Burhanuddin from Dept of Commerce were awarded PhD degree posthumously.
DU to start new courses
Singh also announced that under the new education policy NEP-2020, DU is going to start some new programmes in engineering including BTech in Computer Science, BTech in Electrical, BTech in Electronics, Integrated 5-year BA LLB and BBA LLB.
He informed that from May 1, 2022, DU will be celebrating the hundredth year of its establishment. Along with this, he also described in detail the ranking of DU at the world level.

In his address, Rajnath Singh said that he considers it his privilege to be present in this convocation. He said that he is very happy that he has been a teacher and researcher and has also been the education minister, which is why he accepts the invitations of educational events. He said that wherever he goes, people associated with DU keep meeting him and those people are proud to be associated with DU.
While congratulating all the members of DU on the occasion of the convocation ceremony, the Defense Minister also congratulated and extended best wishes to all the students and their families who were awarded their degrees today.

Dean of Colleges Balram Pani, Director South Delhi Campus Prakash Singh, Dean of Examination DS Rawat, DU Registrar Vikas Gupta, Ambedkar University, Delhi Registrar Nitin Malik, DU PRO Anoop Lather, including all Deans, Principals of Colleges, degree and gold medal recipient students, teachers and non-teaching officers and employees etc. were present during the occasion.
