DU to start MTech in Computer Science with 30 seats from this year; new UG, PG courses announced

NEW DELHI: The University of Delhi (DU) has introduced Master of Technology (MTech) in computer science from the academic session 2025-26. Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh announced this at the 92nd annual meeting of the DU Court. The course will be offered by the computer science department with 30 seats.

Apart from the Computer Science programme, the university has also introduced several new programmes, including Bachelor of Arts Honours ( BA Hons ) in Russian, Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Geriatric Mental Health, DM in Pulmonary Medicine, Master of Science (MSc) in Psychiatry (Mental Health), and DM in Geriatric Mental Health.

The university conducted the 92nd annual court meeting today under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh. At the meeting, the vice chancellor presented details on admissions, appointments, promotions, and infrastructure projects. Singh informed in the meeting that in the academic session 2024-25, Delhi University had 69 colleges and 79 undergraduate programmes.

4,784 academic positions filled

A total of 2,46,194 students had registered for undergraduate programmes, and 70,423 students secured admission. The total number of preferences received for DU was 1,72,18,187, and the admission branch considered 5,68,20,017 unique cut-offs and ranks for allocation.

On faculty and staff promotions, Singh stated that 7,423 promotions had been made in colleges and departments, with 7,019 in colleges and 404 in departments. Sharing data on new appointments, he said that 4,784 academic positions have been filled so far, including 4,447 in colleges and 337 in various university departments.

He further stated that 43 appointments were made for non-academic posts, including seven librarians, 35 assistant librarians, and one controller of examinations. A total of 1,981 non-teaching staff promotions and appointments were recorded.

DU’s infrastructure expansion

The vice chancellor also provided updates on infrastructure at DU’s 92nd annual meeting. He informed that the university is working on multiple engineering projects worth Rs 1,838.41 crore. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for two new campuses and a college on January 3, 2025.

The East campus in Surajmal Vihar will cater to students in East Delhi, while the West campus in Dwarka Sector 22 will provide educational access to students in West Delhi. Admissions will begin at Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, in the current academic session.

Skill enhancement courses popularity

The vice chancellor also highlighted detailed information about the Skill Enhancement (SEC) courses. The most opted course is "Personality Development and Communication," with 38,642 students enrolled. "Political Leadership and Communication" follows with 36,193 students, "Digital Marketing" with 35,370, and "Communication in Everyday Life" with 31,185.

In value-added courses, "Digital Empowerment" has the highest enrolment at 69,457, followed by "Financial Literacy" at 54,401 and "Constitutional Values and the Art of Being Happy" at 37,244.

“The Vice Chancellor said that this shows that more students are choosing subjects related to communication. He asked all the principals to pay more attention to these subjects. The Vice-Chancellor informed that in the recently held 38th AIU Inter-University National Youth Festival, DU received 13 awards and got third position overall,” the official press release said.

On awards, the vice chancellor noted that Delhi School of Economics alumnus Bibek Debroy received the Padma Bhushan, while professors KL Krishna and VR Panchmukhi received the Padma Shri. Zoology department head Reena Chakraborty was awarded the Visitor’s Award for research in biological sciences by President Droupadi Murmu.

“The Vice-Chancellor took strong cognizance of the lower attendance of members in the meeting and asked Registrar Vikas Gupta to send notice to all the HODs, principals, deans and professors who were absent in the meeting,” the official press release said.
