DU elects seven members unopposed to University Court; UG admissions exceed 72,000 seats

The University Court election was held on November 28 under Statute 2(1)(xvii) and Statute 2(1)(xviii) of the University Statutes for seven posts from professions such as law, medicine, engineering and technology, and auditing and accountancy. Additionally, four positions out of six were to be elected from industry and commerce.
Congratulating the members, the DU vice-chancellor said that only seven applications were received, so all candidates were elected unopposed for five-year terms. The elected members are Advocate Abhinav Garg, Advocate Monica Arora, Advocate Raj Pal Singh Pawar, Advocate Sanjay Kumar, Director-Professor of Surgery Dr Shailesh Kumar, Advocate Tanmay Vats, and Chartered Accountant Vaibhav Bhatnagar.

DU UG admission 2025 rise to 72,230
During the meeting, the VC reported that the university offers 71,624 undergraduate (UG) seats across 69 DU colleges and 79 programmes. At the end of the DU admission process for the academic year 2025-26, the university admitted 72,230 students.
While some programmes saw vacant seats , overall admissions exceeded the sanctioned intake to accommodate students’ interest. In postgraduate (PG) programmes, 10,457 students have enrolled this year.
The vice-chancellor also informed that the university has recruited 4,936 academic positions so far.

DU’s India and global rankings
Reiterating the university’s goal to place DU among the top 100 universities in the world, Yogesh Singh said that Delhi University has secured the 30th position globally in the QS World University Rankings for Employment and Outcomes and is first among Indian institutions in this category.
The overall QS global ranking of Delhi University for this year stands at 328.
The DU Court meeting was attended by director of south campus Rajini Abbi, dean of colleges Balram Pani, treasurer Naval Kishore, and other court members.
