NEW DELHI : Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, has urged Delhi University (DU) vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh to facilitate the absorption of adhoc teachers in the 28 colleges of the university funded by the Kejriwal government. Recently, Democratic Teachers' Front wrote to the DU VC against the displacement of temporary teachers.
In a letter to Singh, Sisodia expressed concern over the reports of displacement of 70 percent adhoc and temporary teachers and said that the interviews for assistant professors in DU colleges is ‘catastrophic’.

“The ongoing interviews for assistant professors in different colleges of the University of Delhi have been catastrophic as the displacements of around seventy percent adhoc and temporary teachers have been reported. These teachers have been contributing to the corporate life of the colleges and the loss of experienced teachers will adversely affect the teaching and learning in the colleges,” said Sisodia in the letter.
The Delhi government believes that these adhoc teachers should be absorbed in permanent recruitment. Sisodia argued that many of the adhoc teachers have been teaching in DU for decades and understand the challenges that come with teaching in an institution like DU where they have to deal with students coming from different parts of the country, with diverse backgrounds and academic experiences. “The experience of teaching in a classroom cannot be replaced. Therefore, it is important to continue these teachers in Delhi University.”

The deputy CM reminded that the Delhi government is responsible for the adhoc and temporary teachers working in the 28 DU colleges whose governing bodies include nominees from this government.
“Ordinance XVIII-4(a) provides for the appointments of teaching staff to be done by the governing body. In our 28 colleges, we want to go ahead with the absorption of the adhoc and temporary teachers. The Temp Ord XIII A (1977-78) shall be revived to implement the absorption of the adhoc and temporary teachers by the GBs of these colleges,” Sisodia added.
Recently, the Punjab government announced the absorption of such teachers and employees, Sisodia said. “Hence, we request you to facilitate the absorption of adhoc and temporary teachers in these colleges in which our GBs shall extend cooperation for this,” Manish Sisodia further said in the letter.
